Jean Wiener, a Haitian marine biologist, was recently awarded the Goldman Environmental Foundation prize for his efforts to protect 30,000 square miles of Haiti’s coast by creating Three Bays National Park!

The protected area includes Haiti’s second-largest mangrove forest, barrier reefs, and protection for many species of endangered fish and is located between the city of Cap Haitien and the Dominican border. Wiener has been recognized not only for fighting to create this park, but for promoting sustainable fishing practices and forest preservation in the local communities.
